Day 1

Museums, cafes and a dome view

Three museums, the town hall and cozy breaks - a day that makes you forget the rain.

  1. 10:00 - 12:00

    Sprengel Museum

World-class classical modernism: Picasso, Klee, Beckmann, Schwitters and the largest holding of Niki de Saint Phalle in the world. Right by the Maschsee - all the more an experience in the rain.

  2. 12:15 - 13:15

    Lunch in the Südstadt

Between the Sprengel Museum and the city center lies the Südstadt with cozy cafes and bistros - warm, dry and relaxed.

  3. 13:30 - 15:00

    Lower Saxony State Museum

The State Museum combines four worlds under one roof: art (with old masters), archaeology, ethnology and the natural-history WeltenMuseum with an aquarium and live animals - ideal in the rain.

Tip: The aquarium in the basement is a highlight for families.

  4. 15:15 - 16:30

New Town Hall with the tilted lift

In the rain the tilted lift is especially worthwhile - dry inside up to the cupola, from where the city presents itself impressively even under clouds.

  5. 16:45 - 18:00

    Wilhelm Busch Museum

The German Museum of Caricature and Drawing in the Georgengarten is devoted to Wilhelm Busch ('Max and Moritz') and to international caricature. Small, fine and under cover.

  6. 19:00 - 21:00

Lower Saxon fare in the old town

To finish, a cozy spot in the old town with regional cuisine - half-timbering, warm light and hearty dishes against the rainy weather.
