Market Church
The Market Church of St George and St James is Hannover's main town church and the principal church of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church. The three-aisled Gothic brick building dates from the 14th century, and its characteristic, slightly squat tower rises to 98 meters. Inside, the late-Gothic winged altarpiece and the bronze door by Gerhard Marcks are highlights. Together with the Old Town Hall, the church forms the historic heart of the old town on Hanns-Lilje-Platz.
