Central Station & Ernst-August-Platz
Hannover Central Station, opened in 1879 in the neo-Renaissance style, is one of Germany's most important transport hubs. In front of the concourse, on Ernst-August-Platz, stands the equestrian statue of King Ernst August. The typically local meeting point "under the tail" - referring to the horse's tail on the monument - is well known throughout the city. Beneath the square lies the Passerelle, an underground shopping arcade connecting the station and the city center.
