Wangenheim Palace
The Wangenheim Palace on Friedrichswall is one of Hannover's most important Neoclassical buildings. It was built between 1829 and 1832 to plans by the court architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves for Count Georg Christian von Wangenheim and extended with a winter garden in 1844. From 1863 to 1913 it served as the town hall and seat of the city administration before this moved to the New Town Hall. It burned out in the Second World War and was redesigned inside; today it houses the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs. It is worth seeing above all for its Neoclassical facade and as a testament to Laves's architecture.
